Some Things Never Change!

I Hate the Government! First the disclaimer. I have no enemy in the political fight that just took place within the Teamsters Union. I am a staunch Teamster supporter. My problem is with the apathetic membership.
With 30 years as a Union Steward under my belt, and many years as an activist involved in both National Politics, and Union Politics I have made a simple observation.
No matter how pissed off, or what your beef is, or how loud you voice your displeasure with the Union or the Country,
many of you dumb asses simply don’t vote.
20% of the membership in the Teamsters voted in the national officers election.

What do you call that? I call it apathy. I call it selfishness. I call it stupidity. I call it laziness. I call it keeping your thumbs in the area where the sun doesn’t shine, oh yah that’s the same place you keep your brain.
It is you that didn’t vote that will be the first to bitch. It is you that didn’t vote that will be the first to find fault with the system. It is you that didn’t vote that will complain that there is a conspiracy of takeover within the union that keeps you from getting what you deserve. It is you that didn’t vote that will complain that you get nothing for your dues money.
You that didn’t vote are so lazy, you think that someone else should know exactly what you are thinking. You are so important that everyone else should know what is important to you, and should be cognisant of that, and take actions accordingly. When that doesn’t happen you are pissed because people simply don’t think you are important. Why is that? They don’t have to. You don’t vote. You don’t stand up for yourself. You can’t get your thumbs and brain out of the dark.
Of course your ego prevents you from seeing that the problem lays with you. You immediately blame the world for the problems your laziness creates.
I have one statement to make. You get what you deserve.
Thank you to those that care and took the time to vote, you are what keeps us strong!
In Solidarity with the members of the Teamsters Union that strive to make the Teamsters what they should be.

ps. Most common excuse for not voting: My wife threw away my ballot! You wives are responsible for the apathy in the Teamsters. (just kidding wives, but that is what I have heard the most.)

Republicans Continue to Lie

Republicans are trying to turn President Obama’s words against him, by turning his words on their head. Both Rick Perry and Mitt Romney have been saying that President Obama called Americans “lazy.” I wish this was just a case of lazy editing, but it’s obviously a case of purposely deceptive editing. The President was talking to a group of CEO’s about US business practices and said “But we’ve been a little bit lazy, I think, over the last couple of decades” in attracting investment. Perry and Romney took that statement and claim that President Obama was calling American workers “soft and lazy.” Hey, if you can’t find misstatements by the other side, why not just create them? In the speeches that Romney and Perry have been lifting quotes from, Obama also calls American workers “outstanding” and “the best workers in the world.” Was President Obama calling American workers “lazy” and “outstanding” in virtually the same breath? No. The only way to be that self-contradictory is to be Mitt Romney. None of these Republican candidates have a chance running against President Obama, so they’re trying to run against a President Obama that they have created from scratch.

Another Political Irony

I Hate the Government! I have a few “Right” leaning friends. Lucky me. I’m sure all of us do. Not a problem really. A good discussion is what the system was set up for. An honest look at all options for solutions gleans the best solution on most occasions.
One of the things that “Righties” have promoted is “less government”. On numerous occasions we have argued about the role of people in government, and the “Righties” have always contended that the people that work in government are “leaches” on the system. That their sole goal is to suck from the Government teat for their benefit only. They have contended that people that avail themselves of government services are weak and are using the system because they are thieves, and lazy.
Along comes the “Bush economic crash”. Many of these people have lost their jobs, or are unable, by ability, or usefulness to corporate society, to find work. (I also feel that their egos prevent them from doing some things. Some jobs are just beneath them.)
It has been a very interesting turn of events. Watching their reaction to these situations has produced a very surprising result.
These people have turned to government jobs and benefits.
They have turned to unemployment benefits, all the while bad mouthing the system.
They have turned to spouses with government jobs for healthcare.
They have burdened the Government healthcare system with their health problems, (problems that they knew about before entering the military, but kept them secret in order to get in. Now those health problems are the Governments problems for life.)
They have taken work within the funding network surrounding the financing of political campaigns such as “Right to work for less”, and “Paycheck protection from unions”.  They continue to attack issues based on ideology, yet their hypocrisy of using the Government continues.
The final straw is the attempt to get into Government. Since jobs on a level they feel they deserve are not forthcoming, they have decided it’s time to become a Politician in the government.
They have used our government to get a leg up on the system, and now the push is to use our government to take away from you and me. They have taken from the system to further themselves, and now they are moving up to the point where they can pull from the system, and put it in their pockets, by taking away from you and me.
I have to wonder how many other politicians, and the people working in politics function like this. It’s been a very eye opening experience for me.
     Hypocrisy abounds.
